The Latest Cake Decorating Ideas With Sunflowers
AimeeA Posted 14 Apr 2005 , 9:10pm
I am doing a wedding cake in August and the Bride wants sunflowers on the cake. She said that I could use plastic flowers, but I just can not think about putting plastic flowers on a cake that I am going to work so hard on. So, does anyone have any instructions on how to make either piped sunflowers or gum paste sunflowers?
Thanks in advance

You might try royal icing. Start with pulling petals in from the outside of your nail with tip 104 like you would a daisy but don't go all of the way to the center then put a large dot on top of the petals like making faces for figure piping. maybe a tip 12 or something. Hope this helps

I made royal icing sunflowers using the flower now and flower former to make them dry with a little curve in them. Use a leap tip with golden yellow color (the wider leap tip a 67 or 68?) and put about 3 rows of leaves going on top of two you made first (like in a row of seats). Then use a star tip (#16 or #1 in dark brown to make a fill in of stars. I make the brown part larger quantity of the flower than the leaves since that's how a real one looks like. I think the back of the Wilton catalogs it might give you instructions on how to make that flower too. let me know if you want me to post the flower for you. i happen to have one left from a cake i made last year. I agree I wouldn't use silk either. The good thing is you can make all these way ahead of time.
please PM me since I stopped watching this topic. i have about 3 cakes to do next week and am going to be busy!

I've made these to top cupcakes. For the centers, I used chocolate candy melts...not melted, just they way they come. They're perfect circles. Now I used BC for mine so I don't know how it would work with royal. I took a sharp toothpick and poked at the melts a bit too just to give the centers a pitted look.
